Why Therapy?

I imagine that humans have been supporting and counselling each other since our earliest times. When problems arise and life is challenging we turn to one another to listen, empathise and bring comfort. In today’s more fractured society people often find themselves making their home far away from their place of birth and community. There is an expectation that we should be thriving at all times and that we alone should be able to give ourselves all that we need. As Ester Perel, the world-renowned relational psychotherapist said, “it takes a village to bring up a child”, recognising that we all need a community of sorts: friends, family, lover, spouse, neighbours etc to support and guide us through our journey of life.

My purpose as a counsellor is to offer my clients a place of refuge in a racing world. A place where they can take a moment to breathe and, in their own time, to begin to explore the issues that have propelled them to seek support in the first place. Simply said, the therapeutic journey aims to help people feel better, function better, get along with others and realise their potential. My wish is to help my clients thrive, not just survive.
